Pallavi Arun

Pallavi MD is a multifaceted artist. She is a renowned Kannada  Sugama Sangeetha Singer, an accomplished Movie, Television and Theatre actor, a music director and an award winning short film director.

A graduate in English, Journalism and Psychology, Pallavi also holds a degree in Hindustani music from the Banaras University. But it was her training and performance with her Sugama Sangeetha guru Sri Mysore Ananthswamy that catapulted her to fame in her early teens. She has performed with Luminaries like Sri Zakir Hussain, Sri Kumaresh , Sri Ganesh, Sri Ranjith Barot, Sri S.P Balasubramanyam, Sri Jesudas, Sri Amith Heri, Sri. Taufiq Quereshi, Sri. C. Ashwath Bickram Ghosh, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangaash, Bombay Jayashree, Raju Ananthaswamy, Rajesh Vaidya.and Sri Vijay Prakash. Has given solo Hindustani performances and also has participated in jugalbandhi and dual recitals along with Vidushi Kanchana Sriranjini and Vidushi Manasi Prasad.She has given voice to projects of illustrious music directors such as Late. Vijay Bhaskar, Hamsalekha, Jayanti Kumaresh, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhat, Manohar, Mysore Ananthaswamy, and C.Ashwath. She has scored music for a number of theatre productions like Tughlaq, Moodha Idu Nambike, Miss Sevanthi, Mookabali and Maanishaadha and MukthiDham. She won the state award for best singer for her song ‘Nodayya Kwate lingave’ from Duniya.

Pallavi acted in her first serial ‘ Mayamruga’ in1998. Her acting in Garva won her the Aryabhatta award for best actress. She acted and worked behind the camera for the National award winning film Stumble. Some of her acting assignments include Gulabi talkies (Dir- Girish Kasarvalli),Mithai mane ( Dir- Aarthi), Illirivudu Summane (Dir- Prakash Belavadi), Muktha Muktha ( Dir- T. N Seetharam ). She has also acted in theatre productions like – Translations, Hamlet, Sankranti, Avasthe, Fire and Rain, Balidaana, My Fair Lady, Gaajina Gombegalu, Good Woman of Schezuan, Picasso, Copenhagen, The Boy with a Suitcase, Free outgoing and recently Mukthidhaama

She won a META award for her portrayal of Shilpa the interactive mobile app in C Sharp C Blunt.

Pallavi was the assistant scriptwriter and assistant-director for the mega TV series ‘Garva’. She shot and edited a short film ‘Just a bag’ with Sophia Boesch. She has written, directed, edited and co-produced the award winning short film ‘Playgrounds’ along with filmmaker Shamik Sen Gupta. Playgrounds was awarded the prestigious IFVA award in Hong Kong and the best film award at the LA Fest .

She is the Co-founder of ‘Sweetspot Media’ along with Shamik Sen Gupta. And runs Samudra records along with her husband Arun Kumar.

Pallavi’s association with Abhinaya Taranga dates back to the 1990s when she was an invited actor to many of the institute’s plays. She has since acted, Directed and given music to innumerable plays at Abhinaya Taranga. She directed the institute’s first devised play ‘Matinee Horror’. She recently directed an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s ‘ Chronicle of a death foretold’ for the Abhinaya Taranga Repertory.
